Welcome to the Table

Thank you for pulling up a chair to sobremesa alongside me!

I created this space because I believe in the power of the sobremesa to bring a family’s story back to the table. We are all meant to be tradition bearers, the keepers of our family’s history. And I hope this space serves as both a reflection of that calling and an invitation to embrace it.

If you feel unsure of where to begin, remember that legacy often starts with a simple conversation. Sometimes, lingering at the table allows you to catch a glimpse of a faded photograph, a worn kitchen tool, or a yellowing recipe card. These are more than just objects; they are "silent keepers" of your story, each holding a piece of the puzzle that reveals more about your roots!

I experienced this recently at my mom’s dining table. We were in the middle of dinner when I noticed a photograph I had never seen before, one she had only recently discovered herself. Asking about that single image opened up a sobremesa of stories about my grandfather that I had never heard. It was a powerful reminder that even in the homes we know best, there are still layers of history waiting to be uncovered. That moment of curiosity is where legacy begins. It’s what happens when we choose to stay at the table just a little bit longer.

And to sobremesa can also bring up chapters of our history that are painful to hold. Because preserving a legacy is a profound act of love, one that isn’t always happy. Yet, facing the past, even the heavy parts, is exactly how we learn to do things differently. It gives us the clarity to decide which traditions to carry forward and which cycles to break as we pave our own path. As you do this work, remember to not only create a safe space for those sharing their stories, but also one where you decide what you are willing to carry in your heart.

Cheers, con cafecito, to the stories we keep and the ones we are brave enough to tell!

Let's Sobremesa!

What is hiding in plain sight at your table? I invite you to look at familiar corners with fresh eyes. Is there a photo you’ve walked past a thousand times, or a kitchen tool tucked in a drawer that has a story you’ve never fully heard? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
